Amendment XIII of the US Constitution Repealed

Yesterday, the United States government agreed in principle to provide almost $8 trillion on behalf of American taxpayers. The complete story is available on Bloomberg and various other sources. The amount is more than one-half of the value of everything produced in United States last year alone.

The question of who is going to pay is settled. The citizens of the US are. This agreement is tantamount to repealing the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution which reads in part, “Neither slavery, nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for a crime…shall exist within the United States.”

If you think this is extreme consider this question, can I opt out of contributing without being put in prison? The answer of course is, no!

As a reminder the $8 trillion mentioned above does not include the unfunded liability for Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. Our lives and our fortunes have been pledged to the government. We, in the United States, are all slaves.

  1. Good point!

Every day I wonder which is the next industry to get a bailout. As I watched President Elect Obama appoint his cabinet I realize that (A) these are all people who have never risked their own money on anything – ever and (B) many of these people being put in power have strong foundational ties to the financial industry.

Let’s hope the report on Drudge that describes how a Russion Economist predicts the breakup of the US doesn’t come true — but I didn’t laugh when I read the report..

  2. As it stands, this bailout doesn’t shore up your argument at all. If your argument is valid, then it is true whether or not there is a bailout. All that you might have proven maybe that you don’t like the full implications for what has always been. That seems to be the way with any society, in my opinion. When everyone is enjoying things and life goes on “as normal” people do not complain no matter how perverse the system is. As soon as things get a little uncomfortable, they start yelling and screaming, yet they often fail to see that they (or “we” for I do identify with “them”) were all along in that pot of boiling water that has slowly but surely increased in temperature!
